We will meet at Arma Plaza, a military point located in the historic center of the city, to begin this guided tour of Hondarribia.
A journey through time will reveal the past history of this town and the tense confrontations between the military power and the Civil power that took place around us. We will visit places closely linked to its warlike past, such as the Emperor Carlos V Castle , now converted into a Parador de Turismo, and the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción y del Manzano , emblematic of the town.
We will start a pleasant walk to Plaza Gipuzkoa , one of the most visited places, and then we will go through Nagusia Kalea , the old main street of the town. Here we will discover the houses and palaces of the most important ancient families in the history of Hondarribia, as well as the Ladrón de Guevara house, the Iriarte House, the Zuloaga Palace, the Casadevante Palace or the Town Hall .
Witness of its medieval past is the layout of its old town, with narrow cobbled streets and its wall, with the doors that are still preserved today: the door of Santa María and the door of San Nicolás. We will be surprised by the iconic Baluarte de la Reina , strategically located.
We cannot leave without visiting the La Marina neighborhood , one of the most emblematic points of the city due to its unique marine atmosphere. We will understand why it is part of the vital and main axis of daily life in Hondarribia.
Speaking of the sea and its stories, the time will come to end our tour but, yes, we have prepared a beautiful panoramic view as a climax.
We are going to visit a walled city with a lot of history, so we can see stones and buildings, or be told why they were built, their purpose, their history and their present. We have a formidable wall, from the 16th century, medieval streets, palatial houses, tower houses, a beautiful parish church, a main square and a castle and many charming places. Then we will visit the marina district, with its typical fishermen's houses and its atmosphere of bars and pintxos typical of a fishing village on the Basque coast. We will also learn a little about the customs and anecdotes of our neighbors on the other side of the bay, the French and if you are French, the customs and life in Spain.
Hondarribia is a city with a military past, a tourist and fishing present and on the border with France, so we have a lot to talk about, learn and discover.
Don't miss it and enjoy a pleasant and entertaining time.
