Things to Do in Munich
During our tour, we will talk about both the light and dark pages of German history. We will learn about the history of Bavaria from the Roman beginnings of the city, through 700 years during which it was ruled by one powerful family, the Wittelsbachs, to the unification of Germany by Bismarck in the 19th century. We will see the places where Nazism was born, but also those where Joseph Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI, worked while still an archbishop. We will also see, perhaps the most disappointing attraction of the city – a show of knightly figure fights in the city’s carillon.
Take a walk with us and get to know a city that combines like no other seemingly contradictory fields: history and motoring, art and technology, entrepreneurship, and a specific lifestyle of Munich people, which is a mixture of self-confidence, freedom, and cheerfulness. Perhaps all these contradictions are seamlessly united by what is most important to Munich people… beer!
Join me for a fun and informative 2.5 hour walking tour around the wonderful old city of Munich. Along the way you will learn about the origins of the city, cool king's, local legends, Third Reich history and of course the Bavarian culture, traditions and beer!
I want you to learn but put emphasis on having a good time, so I teach history through telling engaging and fun stories. This is an interactive tour, so I will be asking you lot of questions. In my experience, the best tours are when everyone feels involved in the learning experience.
The tour includes a 15-minute break, which allows you to look inside the Hofbräuhaus and go to the toilet and get food/ drink. At the end of the tour you will get a list of great recommendations for restaurants and things to do.
Weather:
During colder months I will do my best to make sure the tour is mostly undercover, so that you are comfortable and during Summer I'll keep you in the shade.
Group size:
The average group size is 10 - 30 people throughout the year depending on the season and what events are happening in the city.
Although I do most of the tours myself, I do have a small team of guides who also work for me with similar guiding styles.
Important!:
The afternoon tour is a bit shorter at 2h20m.
The tour are in English and maximum group size per booking is 6.
Do not make multiple bookings for a larger group and if you want to bring extra people to the tour then you need to ask before the tour! Don't just bring people and expect they can join. Please have some respect for us guides and the group sizes.
It is essential that you download the Guruwalk app as this is where I will send you important updates about any changes to the tour.

I’ll share local legends, fun facts, and personal insights you won’t find in guidebooks. We’ll explore iconic sights like Frauenkirche, the Royal Residence, and Hofbräuhaus, but also peek into quiet courtyards, secret alleys, and my favorite spots for a great view or a quick snack.

Join me for a 500-Year Journey Through Munich’s Architectural History!
Step back in time as we explore Munich’s rich heritage, starting in the late 15th century with the iconic Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Lady). Here, we’ll delve into the Gothic era and uncover the fascinating stories of that time.
From there, we’ll journey through history, moving chronologically to the Renaissance with the world-record-holding masterpiece, St. Michael’s Church.
Our adventure continues through the opulence of Baroque, the elegance of Neo-Classicism, and the grandeur of Historicism.
Along the way, we’ll uncover tales of the royal family, amusing legends, and even some of the city’s darker chapters.
To take a breather from the bustling Old Town, we’ll hop on a tram to the tranquil Isar River. Here, another world records and a funny dog story awaits.
Finally, we’ll immerse ourselves in the rich and playful style of Jugendstil (Art Nouveau), explore vibrant street art, and conclude our tour with a fantastic modern museum from outside.
