Discover the everyday life and history of the city of Leipzig with me! Our two-and-a-half-hour tour begins in the entrance hall of Leipzig Central Station. From there we make our way to the historic center of the city. Here we get to know some of the most historically significant places such as St. Nicholas Church, Speck's Höfe, Auerbachs Keller, St. Thomas Church and a few more. Historically, our tour covers a period from the 12th century to the present day.
On our tour you will not only learn everything possible about the history of the individual sights and the city of Leipzig as a whole, but we will also take a look at the role the various places play in the everyday life of Leipzig's residents.
A real contemporary witness will take you on a discovery tour in his hometown. We visit places from the exciting autumn of 1989, look at developments back then and discuss the state of affairs today. How was it back then in the so-called "Hero City", what did people hope and expect, and how did Leipzig develop afterwards? What was life like here in the late 80s? How do the people of Leipzig live today? All of this will occupy us during the Leipzig 89 tour. Stops will include: Former Pretrial Detention Center of the State Security, Nikolaikirche, Gewandhaus, parts of the inner city ring, District Administration of State Security Important information: The tour takes place in German. Please register at least 24 hours before the planned tour start. Also note the information on Covid 19. If you want, bring a mouth and nose protection with you.
