Discover the living history of Valparaíso as we explore its oldest neighborhood, the cradle of traditions and a testament to the origins that earned it UNESCO World Heritage status. We’ll start at the iconic Plaza Sotomayor and take historic funiculars to visit parts of the Concepción and Alegre hills, where we’ll admire 19th-century European-inspired architecture—a legacy of immigration that shaped the city—and be captivated by the vibrant street art that brings its colorful streets to life.
From the terrace of Mercado Puerto, located in the heart of Barrio Puerto, we’ll enjoy a privileged view of the historic La Matriz neighborhood, complemented by a walk through the area and a visit to its art galleries, while delving into the fascinating original history of Valparaíso.
Join us and feel the unique energy of this city full of life, color, and tradition!
Note: Visits to Mercado Puerto, the Barrio Puerto tour, and the view of La Matriz are available from Tuesday to Saturday and are subject to availability. This tour may be canceled in case of heavy rain or events that result in the closure of Plaza Sotomayor.
Unveil Valparaíso's Hidden Gem: Playa Ancha
Escape the tourist crowds and explore Playa Ancha, Valparaíso's largest hill. This historic neighborhood boasts charming Californian and Victorian wooden houses, dating back to the early 1900s.
Our walking tour immerses you in authentic life, weaving through cobbled streets, bustling shops, and historic alleyways. Witness stunning late 19th and early 20th-century architecture – a hidden treasure trove for history and architecture buffs. Don't miss this off-the-beaten-path adventure!
The tour begins at the Prat dock to observe the port dynamics, of what was the main port in Chile. Don't miss our old photos! From this place we will move to Plaza Sotomayor where the origin of the buildings and the monument will be explained, making reference to the related historical facts. Then we will head towards the Plaza de la Justicia, we will see part of the financial street and we will cross to take the elevator. The traveler can get a panoramic view of the city and the hills using this unique transportation. We will walk through Cerro Concepción and Cerro Alegre, places where you can see the French, Italian, Croatian, German, English heritage among other nationalities. Visiting ancient places located among the narrow streets will immerse you in the cultural atmosphere of a bohemian city. You will enjoy artisans, muralism, colonial houses and interventions in public spaces that demonstrate the will to maintain tradition and rescue local cultural values. The restaurants, cafes, art galleries, shops and artisans will allow you to take home a pleasant memory of a charming city.
