Discover the history and culture of Valparaíso through its art, streets, and people.

We begin at the Civic Plaza of Valparaíso, in front of the government building. Then we head to the Reina Victoria funicular that will take us to Cerro Alegre and Concepción, where we will learn about the history of Valparaíso through the various types of art present in this area, both on the walls (street art-graffiti) and in different Art Galleries where we will meet prominent local artists 

The tour will include streets, viewpoints, and passages of the city's hills, which tell us the history and identity of the place, and I, as your guide, will be in charge of telling and showing you.

We finish by arriving at Paseo Yugoslavo where the Baburizza Palace is located, currently the fine arts museum of Valparaíso. From there, observing the Port and the Port District, we will learn the final details of this labyrinthine city, better known as Valpo.

We’ll start at the iconic Plaza Sotomayor and take historic funiculars to visit parts of the Concepción and Alegre hills, where we’ll admire 19th-century European-inspired architecture—a legacy of immigration that shaped the city—and be captivated by the vibrant street art that brings its colorful streets to life.

From the terrace of Mercado Puerto, located in the heart of Barrio Puerto, we’ll enjoy a privileged view of the historic La Matriz neighborhood, complemented by a walk through the area and a visit to its art galleries, while delving into the fascinating original history of Valparaíso.

Note: Visits to Mercado Puerto, the Barrio Puerto tour, and the view of La Matriz are available from Tuesday to Saturday and are subject to availability. This tour may be canceled in case of heavy rain or events that result in the closure of Plaza Sotomayor.

The tour begins at Muelle Prat to observe the port's dynamics, once Chile's main port. Don't miss our old photos! From here, we'll head to Plaza Sotomayor, where the origins of the buildings and the monument will be explained, referring to the related historical events. Then, we'll head to Plaza de la Justicia, see part of Financial Street, and cross to take the elevator. Travelers can enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the hills using this unique means of transportation. We'll walk through Cerro Concepción and Cerro Alegre, places where you can see the heritage of France, Italy, Croatia, Germany, England, and other nationalities. Visiting old sites nestled among the narrow streets will immerse you in the cultural atmosphere of a bohemian city. You'll enjoy artisans, murals, colonial houses, and public space interventions that demonstrate the desire to maintain tradition and rescue local cultural values. The restaurants, cafes, art galleries, shops, and artisans will allow you to take home pleasant memories of this charming city.

Pleased to meet you, my name is Luis. I am a clinical-community psychologist and have been working in tourism and mental health for over 8 years.

If you take my tour, I will show you the heritage area of Valparaíso and we can share some of my passions, which are muralism, mental health around Art, history, and my community. 

This year, in addition to the walking tour, you can include the experience of painting your own Graffiti with the artist Maida-K (only available with a reservation at least 24 hours in advance and subject to the Artist's availability). You can write to my WhatsApp to inquire about the cost per person for the class (all materials are included and no prior experience is necessary, just the desire to learn and have fun)

We will organize the experience as follows:

1) We will meet at Aníbal Pinto Square
2) We will visit the historic and heritage area of the city, using funiculars.
3) We will go up Cerro Alegre and Concepción
4) We will go down the Reina Victoria Elevator
5) We will return to Aníbal Pinto Square
6) Optional extra: Graffiti class with Maida-K, (+ 1:30 hours duration)

Our tour begins in Plaza Sotomayor, a historic area of the city located in the port sector, then we walk to Cerro Alegre to visit viewpoints with beautiful views, appreciating the architecture of houses and museums. We will take pictures and continue walking through Cerro Concepción between hidden stairs and colorful streets with very interesting murals and graffiti to reach a very special and fun elevator with a beautiful view that will be our final tour learning about the cultural and musical history of this traditional neighborhood from colonial times until today when it is an area of bars, restaurants and cultural movements with a lot of local identity.

This tour is especially aimed at people who like to share stories and above all enjoy history, art and culture accompanied by a very attentive, friendly local Guru guide with a strong connection to music, arts, history and the identity of Valparaíso.
